Reflection 8

Yesterday I finished a book- Candide which in the end made me realize what is actually the most important in keeping yourself happy. It ended with the words "Let us cultivate our garden" which means to me that we have to keep ourselves busy even with simple activities to be satisfied. When I was thinking about it it reminded me of two weeks of the last summer that I spent with actually doing nothing effortable or productive. I remember that after that I felt even more lack of energy and satisfaction or happiness than if I was working really hard and was because of it exhausted. At least then I'd feel that I'm doing something important. That's why I think that these words are very accurate to nowadays world and we should keep them in mind when we e.g. complain for too much work.

  1. This is often a problem retired people have - having nothing to do they feel useless. This applies especially to men, as women find it much more natural to occupy themselves with 'simple activities' like cleaning, cooking or knitting.

Guernica

GUERNICA As a conclusion of the topic about Picasso I decided to write about Guernica. It's a painting which Pablo painted in 1937 and now it's known at the global scale. It's probably one of the most famous paintings of Picasso. It is 349 cm high and 776 cm wide, so it's more like a mural painting but it's not on the wall but on a huge canvas. The whole process of creating was documented by a photographer who he dated then, Dora Maar. It can be know admired in the National Museum of Art in Madrid with her photos. The history of the masterpiece refers to the bomb that was dropped at a village in the North of Spain, Guernica. It caused a lot of damage including killing many civils. This was actually the first time when the artist painted something as a reaction to a political problem. Guernica shows the tragedy of war and suffering of the innocent. We can see there,...

How trees talk to each other?

Trees in a forest are divided into hub trees-the oldest and the tallest ones and smaller trees. Those which are taller have greater access to sunlight and therefore produce more sugar that they need. Because of that fungi receive it and give in exchange their nutrients. Through the fungi system smaller trees are connected with the hub trees and they can use it to send warning signals if a tree is infected or to exchange nutrients. I think this knowledge is valuable because it shows how the oldest trees are important in the ecosystem. You usually use  thread to sew something. Plants must be watered to stay vital. Plants can be grown from seedlings or seeds, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7kHZ0a_6TxY

Reflection 9

Lately I've been thinking about efficiency of home schooling. That's because I saw a video in which a girl said that she already graduated when she was just 15 and it was because she was home schooling not because she was some kind of genius. For me it seems really extraordinary because of her age. That on the other hand reminded me of the time when I was trying to catch up with the chemistry material last summer because I wanted to study with bio-chem class the following year. I remember that in about 4 weeks I managed to learn nearly all the material which that class did in half a year. Since I've been going to these chemistry classes I realized that sometimes we are required to learn some stuff that is completely useless like e.g. handbook definitions from which we are questioned on every lesson in front of class. Now I'm not so sure if I did the right thing to study chemistry at school because I actually might be able to study it with the same exam results and les...
