Frida Kahlo

                             FRIDA KAHLO

About a month ago I was was in Poznań at an exhibition of Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera. I really enjoyed it and that's why I decided to write about them. Not without a purpose they were shown togther, they were married and both were artists from Mexico.

Frida Kahlo (actually Magdalena Carmen Frieda Kahlo y Calderón) was born on 6th of July 1907 in Cayoacan. When she was only 18 she was a victim of a communication accident and she was badly injured. She had her spine, collarbone, ribs, pelvis and a lot of other bones broken. Because of that she couldn't move her legs and have children. During her life she had about 35 operations for her leg and spine. She tried having a baby 3 times but unfortunately she didn't make it.
After the accident, she spent 3 months lying in her bed and then she started to paint. Usually it was her family member's portaits. After she finally tought herself how to walk again, she showed her works to Diego, who was already known in Mexico as a great artist. He noticed her talent and supported her in painting through her whole life .

In her paintings there is a lot of pain, fisical and psychical. Her husband Diego was known for his independence in marriage and he often cheated on her. That's why she used to say: "In my life I experienced two accidentsOne is the bus that broke methe second is DiegoDiego wasby farthe worst"

She used a lot of bright colours and she simplified objects, so they didn't have many details. There are a lot of symbols of feminism and indian culture. She used to be very politically active, she fighted for woman's rights and supported Diego in his cummunist opinions.  Some people say that she was a surrealistic painter but she used to say:
"Everyone thinks I'm a surrealist but I am notI never paint dreams or dreamnightmares. I paint my own reality."
Because of a lot of Diego's love affairs, he even romanced with Frida's sister, and fights they got divorced in 1939 but in 1940 they got married again. During her lasts years of life her health was getting worse, she had to move on a wheelchair and had 5 more operations on her spine. She died in 1954 and know her works can be seen in "Blue house" where she lived.

Living off the land of Hawaii

Nowadays we're dependent on big industries and I think that it's a problem. Usually we have to buy food that shops provides us but it's getting less healthy because it's mass grown and polluted by dangerous chemicals. Whereas, if it's organic, it's usually more expensive. This video shows that there're still people who provides food for themselves by hunting or growing it. For some it may seem primitive but I think that it's better for the environment, healthier for us and also cheapier. words: remote place, descendant, self-sufficiency People usually don't live in remote areas. Children aren't self-suffient because they're dependent on their parents. After king's death his descendant inherits the crown. . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJXEepvG6Hc&pbjreload=10

Guernica

GUERNICA As a conclusion of the topic about Picasso I decided to write about Guernica. It's a painting which Pablo painted in 1937 and now it's known at the global scale. It's probably one of the most famous paintings of Picasso. It is 349 cm high and 776 cm wide, so it's more like a mural painting but it's not on the wall but on a huge canvas. The whole process of creating was documented by a photographer who he dated then, Dora Maar. It can be know admired in the National Museum of Art in Madrid with her photos. The history of the masterpiece refers to the bomb that was dropped at a village in the North of Spain, Guernica. It caused a lot of damage including killing many civils. This was actually the first time when the artist painted something as a reaction to a political problem. Guernica shows the tragedy of war and suffering of the innocent. We can see there,...

How trees talk to each other?

Trees in a forest are divided into hub trees-the oldest and the tallest ones and smaller trees. Those which are taller have greater access to sunlight and therefore produce more sugar that they need. Because of that fungi receive it and give in exchange their nutrients. Through the fungi system smaller trees are connected with the hub trees and they can use it to send warning signals if a tree is infected or to exchange nutrients. I think this knowledge is valuable because it shows how the oldest trees are important in the ecosystem. You usually use  thread to sew something. Plants must be watered to stay vital. Plants can be grown from seedlings or seeds, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7kHZ0a_6TxY
